Pterygium
Pterygium is a benign, wedge-shaped growth of tissue on the conjunctiva that can extend onto the cornea, potentially affecting vision. It is commonly caused by excessive UV exposure, dust, wind, and dry environments and is often referred to as “Surfer’s Eye.” Symptoms may include redness, irritation, foreign body sensation, and blurred vision if the growth progresses.
Treatment Options:
• Early Stages: Lubricating eye drops and sunglasses for protection.
• Advanced Cases: Surgical removal, especially if it affects vision or causes discomfort.
• Sutureless Pterygium Surgery with Conjunctival Autograft: A highly effective technique where the pterygium is removed, and a graft from the patient’s conjunctiva is secured without stitches, using tissue adhesive. This reduces discomfort, speeds up healing, and lowers recurrence rates.
